Just got this yesterday. MBP 13” retina 8gb RAM, 128gb storage. Intial impressions: the integration between iOS and this is useful. The screen looks great, much better than my old computer. I haven’t really done too much else other than just typical browsing. Fingers crossed I don’t become a victim of staingate.

Can confirm, is neat

I’ve got last year’s model with 256GB I love it, that screen is amazing and it is incredibly well built.

It is one of the better built laptops out there. How has your battery life been?

I was an early adopter and bought the first release (Mid 2012 I think) MPB 13" retina with 256G. Love it. Although now I wish I didn't pay so much for it. It's what I get for buying the first version.

Truth be told, amazing. At least amazing for a laptop anyway. On moderate use for school/web browsing I charge it maybe every 4 days. If I am doing a lot of video watching, photo editing, music downloading I’ll end up needing a charge within 2 days.
It “sleeps” incredibly well, I once went about 3 weeks without using it and it only lost about 20% of a charge (basically I closed the lid on 80% and 3 weeks later when I opened the lid it woke up and was around 60%), I haven’t officially shut it down/restarted in about a month. I don’t play any games on it so I can’t comment about that but it handles any video I’ve thrown at it with ease. The SSD makes it fast as hell.

I put 16gb ram and a 250GB SSD in my 2011 MBP 15.4”.
It’s tits

My older brother has that exact configuration. It is holding up well!

Sounds amazing.

I wanted to stay away from the Retina displays, so I targeted 2011 (early or late) and 2012 non-retina models.
the 250GB SSD was only 99 bucks. a Samsung 850 evo on sale for $99. Get a SSD, they're neat! and use Carbon Copy Cloner (free 30-day trial) to clone your hard drive!
You'll need a
2.5" SATA to USB cable
to mount your new drive as an external hard drive via USB and clone it

Sure is! I have upgrade envy but really performance wise there's nothing really wrong with it.

Learn the keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gesures and you will be able to navigate so much faster with it. Everything else will feel clunky (ios) and outdated (Windows) by comparison once you get in the swing of it.

I’m probably going to end up getting the 250-ish GB model to replace my early 2010 13-inch MBP. It’s such a fucking bummer that Apple put out that shitty new MacBook thing, instead of the ‘Retina’ - possibly my least favourite marketing term for a display ever - MacBook Air that I wanted.

Did they only apply that coating to Macbook Pros? I have a newer air model for about a year and the screen still looks almost perfect.

I think it only applies to computers with retina displays. I’ve heard of it happening to iMacs as well.

Yep! I’m trying to learn them. So far I have the basics down.

I’m not a fan of the MacBook either. It’s not practical enough for me. I wish they updated the MB Air and gave it a retina display - I probably would have went with that if that were the case.

I’ll keep that in-mind if I ever need more storage!

I’m not big into the whole mod/upgrade scene, it works well enough stock for right now. :)

I need to check to see if my Air has the coating. If it does I would not worry. Some of those photos of affected screens look like the owner decided to clean their screen with their kitchen knife.

The screen on mine is fairly dirty after a few years of use, but it’s nothing dealbreaking.

Next Step: Install windows, run at max resolution. EVERYTHING IS SO TINY IT’S HILARIOUS

Congrats. Enjoy it and pray nothing breaks.

I know what you mean. I’m only going to clean the screen with the microfibre (?) cleaning cloth that apple provides. That way if something does go wrong, I know it wasn’t my fault. I’m extremely paranoid right now though, any smudge is suspect.

I have haha. If this fell victim to staingate I don’t know what I would do. Any smudge is suspect.
